Engineering Technician

Major Duties Include (but are not limited to):
Provides engineering support in an automated pharmacy to production equipment and processes; Maintains automated pharmacy fulfillment system equipment and peripheral support equipment to allow for continued operation; Maintains an equipment inventory and maintenance database used to supply current maintenance information on request; Provides solutions to issues that prevent or hinder operations; Monitors quality assurance related to enhancing patient safety, and the prevention or control of unexpected catastrophic system failures; Identifies and implements protocols to ensure timely recovery of critical equipment and systems; Maintains efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance while working with toxic or hazardous substances, utilizing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and protecting product from infection/contamination; Ensures that application training is provided to users and support staff; Prepares correspondence, technical reports, estimates, fact sheets, status reports, and schedules as required to ensure assigned projects are completed on time and within established budgets; Reads, interprets and applies technical literature to perform installations, calibrations and preventative maintenance; and Utilizes programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, input/output devices, transformers, surge protection devices, pneumatic actuators and conveyors. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Experience:
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Certification:
Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples of trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:
1) Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. 2) Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. You may qualify based on your Specialized Experience as described below. Specialized Experience (GS-12):
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-11) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of Specialized Experience includes (but are not limited to):
1) Resolves software, hardware, and integration problems using a knowledge of schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, tables, charts, mathematical expressions and formulas 2) Collaborates with production supervisors and end users to read and interpret technical literature and relay pertinent information 3) Monitors quality assurance indicators related to forecasting of premature equipment failure rates and mean time between equipment failures (MTBF) 4) Serves as a subject-matter authority for automated pharmacy fulfillment system components, including practical application of computer, engineering, and electronics theory, and the practical use of analog and digital electronics, pneumatics, electromechanical devices, hydraulics, thermodynamics, optics and physics 5) Improvises troubleshooting practices and interprets electronic, electrical, and mechanical drawings, specifications, and schematics of custom systems 6) Conducts troubleshooting of automated pharmacy fulfillment systems equipment using various tools (e.g., analog/digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, resistor/capacitor substitution boxes, calibration devices, current probes, watt meters) 7) Maintains the facility's automation operations and supporting infrastructure, to include periodic inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
Work involves various situations where the employee is required to perform bench work and/or field work that requires sitting, walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, etc. Often handles devices weighing up to 40 pounds and is sometimes called upon to handle objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds with weight-handling equipment or the assistance of others. Agency and contract work requires frequent inspections, which may involve considerable walking, bending, stooping, crawling, climbing, reaching, and other physical movements. Performs duties in areas that require special safety precautions to avoid injury to self or others (i.e., lock-out/tagout, wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in hazardous areas, etc.). Assignments may require extended periods seated at a computer as well as sedentary office work. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
