Duties for the Advance Medical Support Assistant include:
Scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient appointments. Receives/screens phone calls. Provides medical administrative support to one or more outpatient clinics and is an integral member of the outpatient clinic team to effectively carry out day-to-day administrative operations relating to the scheduling of Non VA Care. Participates in team huddles with clinic staff to determine the daily need of the clinic. Collects and updates demographic and insurance information. Coordinates administrative services for Veterans, family members, administrative and clinical staff to insure continuity of inpatient and outpatient care. Generates patient workload reports for validation and monitors activity. Additional duties or tasks may be assigned by the supervisor to ensure efficient daily operations. Work Schedule:

Experience:
Must possess six (6) months experience of clerical, office, customer service or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the Medical Support Assistant R Must have successfully completed one (1) year above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying for entry level. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation). Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. GS-6 Advanced MSA
Experience:
One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-5. (SF 50 required for current federal employees). Specialized Experience includes but is not limited to:
Operating computerized programs and systems in order to enter, modify and retrieve sensitive medical and patient identifying information into or from electronic health records, scheduling systems and/or reports; Advanced knowledge of medical terminology specific to understand medical diagnosis and procedures sufficient to communicate clinical staff instructions to patients; Scheduling medical appointments in a clinical setting; Working independently in the accomplishment of a wide variety of duties in performing patient support work; Communicating effectively and professionally in person, electronically, and/or by telephone, as necessary, to ensure satisfactory resolution; Identifying customer's concerns, and refer to the appropriate staff, as necessary to ensure a satisfactory resolution. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate the below listed KSAs:
1. Ability to collaborate and communicate, with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g. medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nursing staff, to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to patients is met. 2. Ability to independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations. 3. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively (electronically, by phone, in person, and in writing). This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient concerns. 4. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process, as it relates to access to care. 5. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community operational activities that affect patient flow, and patient support care. 6. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians. References:

The work of the positions is primarily sedentary and requires no special physical demands. It may involve some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items. Concentration and sustained performance under prolonged stress is required because of the time factors involved with completion of work. Work involves extended periods of keyboarding.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
