Health Technician - LAB (Trident Outpatient Clinic)

The Health Technician provides support in a wide variety of basic clinical and intermediate level administrative activities. Incumbent must ensure compliance with VA regulations, Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agencies. Actively supports the team concept and functions as a team player. Responsible for initiating and carrying out venipuncture and echocardiograms in coordination of patient examinations and performs pre and post patient care requirements. Receives and reviews new lab and EKG orders. Advises staff on order requests and coordinates with team members to ensure timely completion. Operates, calibrates and maintains medical instruments and accessories used to assist with or perform standard diagnostic or therapeutic procedures requiring adjustments for abnormalities. Communicates sequences of events to patient as standard procedures are performed. Maintains administrative and clinical files. Completes electronic data entry, ensuring accurate statistical information is maintained. Orders and maintains supplies for the unit to include specialized supplies pertaining to instruments. Performs a range of diagnostic support duties such as taking, recording and reporting to supervisor deviations in vital signs, taking specimens, labeling specimens for the laboratory. Schedules appointments and tests, and coordinates all activities and appointments for the clinical area, avoiding conflicts in patient treatment plans. Performs other related duties as assigned. Experience:
GS-05:
One (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques performing administrative, laboratory, and echocardiogram duties in support of patient examinations, drawing blood, ordering for venipunctures and EKG's, receiving and accessing specimens (blood, urine, feces, assorted body fluids, perform CPR, etc.). Must be able to multitask and have great phlebotomy skills (collect on various age groups up to elderly). Lab technicians should have good analytical skills and the ability to work well under pressure. They should be detail oriented with good vision and manual dexterity. Lab technicians sometimes pursue additional education and training in order to become laboratory technologists. This experience must be equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service.OR, Education:
Successfully completed four (4) full years of education leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 hours in subjects directly related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED). Equivalent combinations of creditable specialized experience and education as described above to meet the total requirements for the position. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
